A big thank you to everyone for the help that went into Saturday nights very successful evening, although all bills and income are not finalised at this moment we feel that the final figure will be around $40,000. This is a magnificent result with the numbers attending (773) in the end slightly down on last year and the economic crisis being experienced at the moment. Special mention MUST be made of the incredible amount of effort that Sally Luke put in for the event, Saturday would not have happened without her. Also a huge thank you to her mother and employer Heather for allowing her to do so much of the work in the office which was quite often taken over when I arrived. Luke & Associates real estate Payneham Rd can now resume normal operations!!!!!!
We now must start to look forward and it is with a tinge of sadness but more of relief that the 3 families who have been working on the last 7 balls have decided that the APFF charity ball needs a new direction. The Luke, Crossman and Boyle families are very proud of what we have achieved, taking the ball from an attendance of around 220 and a small profit to a peak of 800 and $40,000. The most pleasing factor is the added profile and support that has been generated for 'CAMP SMOKEY', a truly wonderful camp for young burns survivors.
For the APFF charity ball to continue other members of the SAMFS or its extended family will be required to commit to the organising the ball for 2011. In 2012 the Fire Service will be celebrating its 150th anniversary and we have been informed that the ball will not be held in its current form. Any profits from this function will be directed to the running of the camp.
If there are people willing to put their hand up to organise 2011, we believe a decision needs to made prior to July 1st, as this when the Special Ball membership is factored to. Once a decision is made that there will be a ball next year, the first step is to pick a date and venue as soon as practible. If the decision is made that no ball will be held in 2011, that would be a pity.
As you may be aware the 10th anniversary ball held in 2009 was a huge success, and all the people involved were extremely pleased with the smooth running of the night. The most pleasing factor for the organisers was that issues which have arisen at previous ball are being rectified and the feedback that we have received has been most encouraging. The committee are pleased to announce that the 2009 Charity Ball raised approximately $40,000, a truly magnificent result.
When the concept of the special ball membership was initiated, the purpose was to assist fire-fighters to attend what has now become a major function on the social calendar. It has enabled the event to grow at a steady rate, and at the 2009 ball 800 people were in attendance. This is a figure that several years ago would not have been contemplated and the committee now feel that this number should be the benchmark and hence it has been decided to limit the number of attendees to 800 for future balls. We also believe that the balance of the people attending i.e. fire-fighters and friends, nurses and corporate sponsors has reached an appropriate level. The special ball membership has been pivotal in the success of the annual ball; please check the status of your membership on your first payslip in the new financial year. New members are more than welcome and arrangements must be made via the pay office.
The APFF is extremely lucky to have the services of the Fire Service Credit Union (FSCU), for the selling and distribution of ball tickets. The staff’s co-operation is a vital cog in what is now a well oiled machine.
