2010 Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation Raffle

Thursday 12th August 2010

The 2010 Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation Raffle has been drawn and won by ARFF Superintendant Dean Bowden. The raffle was drawn on Friday the 6th of August at the raffle’s Major Sponsor the Gas Light Hotel in Brompton. For everyone who has been a part of assisting with the organising and selling of the tickets you would know that there were 13 great prizes to be won. Dean was lucky enough to take home $2000 in cash.

Here are David’s own words after hearing of his win.......

“I would like to thank my Mother, Gill who worked tirelessly for the last 12 months to help organise the raffle.  As some of you would realise it is very difficult work trying to get people and businesses to donate prizes for events such as these. Gill raised over $1500 on her own, through asking for sponsorship and spending many, many hours of her own time selling $50 raffle squares at different social events throughout the year, raising the money which went toward the first prize. On top of that, out of the 2665 tickets that were sold she managed to sell 1094 of them ON HER OWN! A huge effort.

Mainly through her efforts we were able to scrape together about $4000 which will go towards the burns prevention posters for the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital. I would also like to thank my fellow Airport Firies, although there are only 35 of us, out of the remaining 1571 tickets sold, 1202 were sold from our station, another fairly reasonable effort. Also a huge thankyou to my wife Viktoria who was instrumental in the organisation of almost everything involved over the last year. Thanks also to all of the donors who made the raffle possible”.

Family’s Gift After Christies Beach House Fire

Monday, 8 March 2010

On Tuesday, the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation (APFF) brought joy to a Christies Beach woman and her family who recently lost their home through a house fire.

APFF members assisted the woman and her children take the first step of getting back on their feet by donating a brand new refrigerator to them, with support from Radio Rentals at the nearby Colonnades Shopping Centre.

Ten people were at the Clovelly Avenue home when the fire started at about 4.30 pm on Wednesday, 17 February 2010. Fortunately a working smoke alarm alerted members of the family and they managed to escape, however the fire destroyed their home and left a damage bill of about $200,000.

The APFF is a registered charity dedicated to helping fire victims, especially children and those in immediate need, including burns survivors.

The organisation encourages the community  to show kindness and generosity to the family to assist their recovery, and hopes its gift prompts similar donations.
